CHAIRMAN’S CHATTER

Hi everyone! I hope that, as summer is the traditional time for holidays or time out, that you have had a good few months, whether you went away or stayed put. However, summer’s gone and autumn is on us and I am aware that for some the past few months have not been good, for various reasons. I know that some have had employment or health worries, parental concerns or been bereaved; the committee is thinking of you. I trust that those who are in regular contact with folk in such situations are able to give support.

I remember the first time that I visited Wastwater in the Lake District, I was awed at the deep dark waters and the sheerness of the surrounding hills. In one of the windows of the little chapel at the far end of the lake was engraved the well known verse Psalm 121:1.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

I thought, “Yes Lord, even though You are the great creator God, Your love and concern for us goes deeper than this lake and higher than these hills”. It also reminded me of Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians in Chapter 3v16-19 “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” I pray that, whether you are going through happy or hard times, you might experience this great love and care of our maker God.
