CHAIRMAN’S CHATTER

“Everything is against me!” - Gen. 42:36

This is how Jacob felt when his sons returned to him from their trip into Egypt to obtain food and Simeon was kept so that Benjamin might be brought to the “official” to prove that what they said was true! I know that I have days like Jacob when I don’t think things can get worse and they do!

Sometimes things can look worse than they are because we make pessimistic assumptions and judgements too quickly. We also often don’t know everything. Jacob assumed Joseph was dead, so Simeon must be too and Benjamin would also die. But this was not the case, as we know from the rest of the story. We must take care to find out all the facts before we jump to conclusions.

When we have days like this we need to remember that God’s ways are loving and faithful (Ps 25:10). We may feel the world is against us but as Romans 8:28 says - God is for us. The great creator God cares for me and is working everything out for my good. How wonderful! Nothing can separate me from His love.

“No in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39

I’m grateful to my Pastor for these words and many others on the life of Jacob. May Jacob’s life be a lesson for us all.

Take care

Julie
