Chairman’s Chatter

‘Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time:’ Jonah ch 3 v1

In the morning services at church we have been studying the book of Jonah. We have dispelled myths and seen how God turned a rebel prophet back to Him. I found it amazing that God should ever consider doing this. Here was not just a `bod’ like you and I. Jonah was a prophet, a man of God, and he went the opposite way to where God wanted him to be. But God turned him around and gave him a second chance.

This is even more amazing when I think of what Romans 5 v 8 says `But God demonstrates his own love for us in this. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’ We do not deserve the first chance let alone a second one.

God has chosen to bring us back into fellowship with Him and He has a perfect plan and purpose for our lives. He will sometimes give us a second chance as in Jonah’s case - but not always, as in the case of Ananias and Sapphira. I hope that we will know His leading in our lives and not waste time rebelling.

My other thought in considering this is - if God is willing to give us a second chance, are we willing to give someone a second chance who has perhaps wronged us? Sometimes it would not be right to do this, but in other cases maybe we need to take that `risk’, and give the opportunity to try again as Jesus did with Peter after the resurrection. I hope that with the Spirit’s leading we will be able discern this. How about you? Do you need to give someone a second chance? If so, I hope that with God’s enabling you will be able to do so.

Take care.

Julie
