Chairman’s Chatter

Encouragement - this gift is underrated by most folk as the least important, but I think it a great gift to have, and one that we all should seek to cultivate.  Ben challenged those of us at the AGM morning service – do our words lift someone up or cast them down?

The apostle Paul often uses words of encouragement in the closing remarks of his letters. 1 Thessalonians Ch 5 v11 is an example of this, but I like v14 as well - `…warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone’.

This verse seems to be pertinent when out walking, in that hopefully we won’t need to warn the idle too much – although who can blame those of us not wanting to move on after a rest stop on lovely sunny day! However, we may come across people who are timid – not sure if they can manage the walk, or taking fright at something that seems insignificant to us. Or those who are weak, perhaps recovering from an illness, or just tired from the battering of life, and we definitely need to be patient.

It’s quite a tall order to try and live our lives as Christ would have us live them, even more so when we are out walking and maybe tired ourselves. So I hope that we will take the words of v11 to heart `Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing’.

On a personal note, thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me through my time on the committee. I hope that you will continue to pray for and support the new committee. Thank you also for the vase and vouchers and for the good wishes for my future.

Take care

Julie
