In a recent edition of
‘Triangle’ the YHA announced it was introducing Café Direct
products for its coffee. They have done
this because they believe it supports the producer, is a good quality product,
and is sympathetic to the aims of the YHA.
Have you thought as a
Christian whether you should be buying fair trade goods? God’s word has much to say about the
need for justice in trade, for the workers to be paid fairly, and that we are
not to exploit one another. It is a
direct and tangible way of loving our neighbour in every aspect of our lives
including how we spend our money.
‘And what does the
Lord require of you? To act justly and
to love mercy and walk humbly with your God’

Holidays
- These can be so refreshing, to
get us into a different vein, and experience things differently, which we
cannot do within the everyday confines of our lives. Mind, body, soul and spirit all need
recreating, and for us to be without the same circumstances and
responsibilities for a while. Some of my
most purposeful, creative and adventurous times happen when I am on holiday.
Thank you Lord for holidays. Thank you for the opportunity to experience a
change, and for the difference this makes, even for a few days. Help us to make use of this opportunity, and to go
through the decision-making process to make it happen.
Thank you for our resources, for giving us permission
to use them in this way, and to trust you for how things will work out. Thank you for enabling us to see your world,
your people, how others live. Thank you
for views and scenery, for people we have been with, or for solitude. Thank you for the different cultures, and
different ways of life for us to possibly experience; for sky, flowers,
architecture, buildings, water, sun, snow-clad hills, stimulation and interest, beauty, and for everything we
experience, thank you Lord. Thank you
for the breaks that CRC provide. Thank
you that you can bring us 'back to life' when we've felt shut-down, and help us
appreciate things with more life behind it because You are in it. Thank you for the lift you give us through it, and refreshing us as
to who you are and what you can do. We
seek your help Lord for who to go on holiday with, where, and when to go. Thank you for the guidance towards
opportunities that only you could have arranged for us that are amazing acts of
your love. Thank you for the unexpected
ways you bless us and take us forward in this area. Thank you that as we trust You during these
times, you get through to us about things of You, more than we could have
imagined.
Lord we pray for those not in active work at present,
but who need a change from their
environment. We pray for those we know
who need a break from caring responsibilities, and those who enter holiday
periods with extreme tiredness and fatigue, that you would meet their needs and
arrange something for them. We pray for
them to know your grace and restoration.
Please make it easy for them to plan, and have your ‘yes’ on
their lives in respect of the breaks they need, and to know your provision and
blessings in those times. We pray that
we will all have shown that we have been with You on our return. ‘We all with shining faces behold the
glory of the Lord’ (2Cor 3.18)
