Chairman’s Chatter

A few weeks ago I felt I was near to breaking point.  I just could not see my way through the myriad of things I had to get done.  The things in themselves were quite small, but numerous and time consuming, and all in addition to the never ending work that goes with being a teacher.  It was wearing me down emotionally and physically to such a point that I left for school one morning thinking ‘would I ever cope?

That particular morning the volume of traffic caused me to come to a halt leading up to a roundabout.  There by the roadside was a West Sussex Highways Dept. sign which read ‘Is your load secure?’.

I had seen that sign many times before and considered that it had no relevance for me.  This time it was different.  I heard God speaking to me through those words.  He was saying ‘Alison, is your load secure?  My reply was to admit to God, and myself, that no, my load was not secure.  Indeed, carried only by my own capabilities and the way I was feeling, my load was clearly very insecure.  Before having to move on up the queue I was able to confess to God that I had left Him out of all this busyness, and then to unload onto Him so that my load was secure.  In that short prayer I found myself  ‘letting go and letting God’.

What a relief! My perspective changed and I experienced a real peace.  The jobs still had to be done, but I then felt confident to cope knowing that my load was secure with God.  Jesus said “Come unto me all you that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest”.  The coming can be hard, but the promise of rest is a promise that Jesus will always be faithful to.  It was something James was confident of, and he was able to recommend to his readers these words “Cast all your care on Him, for He cares for you.”.
