Chairman’s Chatter

Congratulations to The Christian Rambling Club!

It's our 25th Silver Anniversary year and we plan to celebrate with special events going on throughout the year.  Look out for them being advertised in the newsletter and in the events programme

Whilst mulling over some ideas for my Chairman's Chatter, I kept the number 25 in mind.  First, I looked up the 25th book in the Old Testament.  Discovering it to be Lamentations I swiftly moved to the 25th book in the New Testament!  It is 3 John, and whilst containing some good 'stuff', was not really suitable.  So, confidently I turned to the 25th Psalm for inspiration and was not disappointed.

Psalm 25 is a heartfelt prayer expressing three moods which we can apply to the CRC and to ourselves as individuals.  First of all we see that the Psalmist's mood expresses an essential belief in the ‘goodness, mercy and love of God which have been from old.'  He proclaims 'You are good, O Lord.  Your ways are loving and faithful' v 6,7,10.  God has been good and faithful to the CRC over the past 25 years in so many ways, and we have much to be thankful for.  He has enabled successful events to be held which have offered encouragement, friendship and spiritual refreshment to many people whilst enjoying what they love to do - walk in God's creation.  In our own lives we too can testify that God is good.  Even if there have been difficulties and sadness, God is loving, faithful and good and can be trusted.  This is the certainty on which our faith rests.

The Psalmist, just like ourselves, lives in the present and recognises that for the believer it holds many snares which can draw us away from God.  So, in v 4 - 5 there is a mood which expresses a desire to be daily guided by God's truth and along His paths.  That is our longing for the CRC.  As a club we need to be open to God, to humbly seek Him and to trust Him for His leading for today and in the years ahead.  If we are sincere in our willingness to be guided by God in His truth, then surely He will lead v 8-10.  This is the reality on which our faith rests.

Thirdly, the Psalmist expresses a mood of hope v 3, 5.  Not an anxious hope, but a confident, certain, trusting hope that the God who forgives him will keep him secure.  We have no need to fear.  Our own individual faith and the faithful witness of the CRC, will not be put to shame, neither now or in eternity.  This is the security on which our faith rests.

Take time to read and prayerfully apply Psalm 25 verse 1-10 to the CRC, and to your own situation in this our 25th year.

'To you O Lord, I lift up my soul;

Oh my God in you I trust.

Show me your ways O Lord, teach me your paths,

Guide me in your truth and teach me

for you are my God and my Saviour

and my hope is in you all day long.'
