We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Resources and Publicity focus group at the AGM.  We discussed the many ideas at the July committee meeting.  Some issues such as the Club name, logo and web site will take a while to sort out.  In the meantime we are going ahead with printing some up-to-date flyers.  These will be available from the committee once a design has been finalised.  If you know of specific Christian bookshops or churches willing to take some flyers please let Julie have the details.

Help With Redesigning Website

We are forming a sub-committee to tackle redesigning the website, so please contact Julie if you have the skills and time to help.

Ethical Banking

The Committee has looked at the possibility of banking with the Cooperative Bank or the Unity Trust Bank, because of their ethical ethos. We have discovered, however, that the arrangements for paying in cheques are impractical for us, so we have decided not to pursue this for the moment.

Special needs

In order to take into account the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), we have been considering how we may be able to meet special needs.  If anyone has needs that they feel are not being met, please get in touch with a member of the Committee.  If any member is a deaf signer and would like to offer help if the need arises, please also contact a member of the Committee.

Children’s Network

Graham and Judith James have offered to coordinate contact between members with children, with a view to joining up on events, to make things more fun.  If you are interested, please email gandjjameshotmaiI.com or telephone 01489 557872.  Names, email and telephone contact details could then be distributed amongst other members of this group.

Standard Event Charge

In order to cover the administration costs of events, the committee have decided to bring in a Standard Event Charge.  This charge will be £2.00 per person for each event, and will commence with events that appear for the first time in the current programme, i. e. November 07 - March 08 edition.

Tithe from CRC Funds

In CRC we follow the Biblical principle of tithing our income, that is, giving one tenth to some other work(s) of the Lord.  The Committee would welcome suggestions for where we might place these funds, generally to charities.  Note that the Committee’s decision on the outcome is final

Tick Awareness

Ticks are usually found in forested, heathland or moorland areas, but occasionally have been found in suburban parklands as well.  Areas that are inhabited by deer are suitable breeding grounds for ticks.  They are very small (about the size of a poppy seed) and need a ‘blood meal’ before they can move onto the next stage of their life.  Late spring, summer and autumn are peak times for tick feeding.

Ticks transmit organisms which can cause infection, but more seriously they can cause other illnesses such as Lyme disease.  This is why it is important to check all over the entire skin surface including skin folds for ticks after a day out in a tick infested area.  Don’t forget to check the neck, head and hair as well.  Also check clothes for any unfed ticks.

Infections can be treated with antibiotics but prevention is better.  Appropriate clothing should be worn i.e. long sleeved shirts and long trousers and insect repellents applied to exposed skin. Also the early removal of the tick is crucial, as the tick needs to be attached for 24 -48 hours before it transmits the organisms.

The best way to remove a tick is to grasp it with fine tweezers as close to your skin as possible.  Pull steadily away from your skin.  Once removed, clean the area with soap and water.  Avoid crushing, applying Vaseline or using a lighted match, as this will cause the tick to release its organisms early.  Don’t worry if the mouthparts stay in the skin, as once the mouthparts are removed from the rest of the tick it can no longer transmit disease.

Prayer Focus - Putting things right

Go thou quickly ... before offering thy gift...’ Strained relations with other people can often become sticking points for us.  I was shown-up, but was it them or me?

Lord You know we frequently disappoint others unwittingly.  Thank You for Your Holy Spirit prompting us about our part.  Help us to not feel indignant about our failings, especially when we were trying hard at the time and thought we were being guided.

Please help us move on from our own hurt pride about ourselves, which often concerns us more than the other person.  Please help us take their feedback, and the realisation that we may need to say sorry that we didn’t get it right, and do this promptly, even when we don’t want to.

Thank You that’s its just a part of growing more into You, that You are still doing Your work in us.  Help us not to be surprised when we get it wrong.  Preserve us from presuming we were ‘doing okay’ when we are still the chief of sinners.  Thank You that we need Your grace and provision in all things and that You can and will do the mending.  Thank You for this sheer grace.  Help us move quickly into knowing You again, understanding that this is just the way of things, due to what we are.  Thank You that we may have become more in tune with the other person, who You value.

Thank You that You are compassionate and gentle with us.  Thank You also for those who actively forbear with us.  How could we not show that same patience, mercy and grace to those who offend us? Thank You for Your life-giving exchange for the burden of our weakness, with the promise that we can continue taking on Your yoke which is easy, with forgiveness and joy, because You are love.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Poetry Please

On the way to Lud’s Church at the AGM Event, on a seat,

I found this little ditty

And thought it rather witty

It would’ve been a pity

To leave it behind!

Come sit upon this seat

While you rest your smelly feet

When you’re looking at your map

Gusty wind will take your hat

Now Lud’s Church was used by persecuted followers of John Wycliffe in the early 15th century.  It is a series of large clefts in the rock.  Remember how God hid Moses in the cleft of a rock while He passed by, and covered him with His hand (Exod 33 v22).
